While the Orsay, the world’s greatest repository of 19th-century French art, is being renovated, two exhibitions of 240 masterworks from the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist periods are traveling the world. Only one museum in the world will host both shows: San Francisco’s de Young, which scored a major art-world coup that gives Bay Area residents a chance to see the works of the masters even if they can’t travel to Paris.
